Just feels like something put together by a group of professionals more focused on making it look technically impressive rather than interesting.
#QUAKE 5 LOVECRAFT PC#
(Before anyone calls it nostalgia: I grew up with macs so my gaming experience was restricted to consoles until I bought my first PC in the late 2000s.) From 3-5 players take the roles of Cthulhu cultists, bent on world domination. They both felt anchored in a vision fueled by the music, comics and art the devs were consuming at the time instead of some bullsh*t industry trend. Q: What board/card games are available based on Lovecraft or the Mythos. When I look back at Quake 1 and 3, as different as they may be from each other, I'm still struck by how badass they were atmospherically. Quake's art direction isn't nearly as iconic because it's changed so much over the years (and because of the Strogg) but I always thought that it had the potential to be even more interesting and unique than DOOM and other shooters of its kind. The atmosphere and overall art direction were so good that it succeeded in making its seemingly generic theme feel fresh and relevant once more (even with its cheesy metal music). Ironically though, I feel like DOOM 4 actually nailed the 'space marine vs demons in space' theme perfectly. Shub-Niggurath also appears in the works of other mythos authors. HP Lovecraft died 82 years and 3 days ago (15th March, 1937). The being first appeared in Lovecraft's revision story 'The Last Test' (1928) in Lovecraft's fiction, she is never actually described, but is frequently mentioned or called upon in incantations. Totally agree with OP's sentiment, I was just thinking about this recently while playing Quake. Shub-Niggurath, called The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young, is an Outer God in the Cthulhu Mythos of H.
